Saints Sign Undrafted Free Agent Safety DeAndre McDaniel
Undrafted NFL free agent and former Clemson star safety DeAndre McDaniel tweeted last night he agreed to terms with the New Orleans Saints.
Many mock drafts in April actually, considered McDaniel to go in the second or third round because of his superior talent in college for the Tigers, but somehow he slip down the draft boards silently through all seven rounds and not one team selected him.
His wrist injury might have scared team away, but it was just a fracture and he recovered without the need for surgery.
Mc Daniel stated "They felt like I was going to need surgery and miss (2011)," McDaniel said. "I got it checked at the combine, but when I went back for a recheck the weekend of (Clemson's) spring game, everyone was seeing that it was still fractured." ESPN
McDaniel's middling 4.6-second 40-yard dash also might threw some teams to draw backs.
But I think today in the NFL those are minor but it all comes down to your character and the fact that he was arrested for aggravated assault and battery a few years back certainly doesn’t shine in the mind of NFL scouts and coaches.
The Saints were driven to take the risk and allow this bright star to possible make his mark in the NFL, specifically with the great leadership on defense the Saints have this could work well.
